Firepunk Diesel 68RFE Swap to a 48RE Transmission

Everything You Need to do a 68RFE Dodge 6.7L Cummins Transmission Swap.



We get a lot of swap related questions, and that is great, we are here to help, but I wanted to make a post to help educate anyone curious about what all parts are needed to swap a 68rfe truck to a 48re. We have a complete Comp 1 transmission + parts and controllers kit listed online for $8737.90 (not installed). 


You will still need to source a 48re core transmission and converter if you don't want to be charged a $1500 core charge. They continue to be harder to find so we'd rather have a 48re core then your core money. The kit includes the parts and pieces you need to complete a swap and additional options you can add to this kit are aux trans coolers, Comp2 or Comp 3 upgrades, and soon a Anteater Pro option over the Classic. 


The driveshafts from the 68rfe are reusable, but the Tcase input shaft needs modified. If its a New Process Tcase (NP271/NP273) we can sell you a replacement tcase input shaft that fits the 48re output shaft, or if its a Borg Warner Tcase or a fat output shaft transmission, we usually just machine 3/4" off the tcase input. Duramax Diesel Allison Transmission Fast Learn Procedure

Duramax Equipped With a Allison Transmission Fast Learn Procedure   Initial Test Automatic 5 or 6 Speed Transmission  In general, Fast Learn is a procedure for Allison 1000 Series transmissions in which a series of tests are run to allow the transmission control module TCM to learn individual Clutch characteristics.
