Lava Wrap Volcanic Rock Exhaust and Header Wrap

Made from crushed volcanic rock (basalt fiber), our Lava Wrap has all the same benefits as exhaust wrap, but with that trick carbon fiber appearance and improved durability. This exhaust wrap is 25-percent stronger than fiberglass wraps, giving it a prolonged life and greater durability.
Using Lava Wrap on a header and exhaust system maintains hotter exhaust gases, decreases gas density, and allows the exhaust gas to flow through the system at increased velocities. Greater exhaust scavenging is produced, pulling intake gases through the cycle faster, helping to lower air intake temperatures. This gives you more horsepower, and also reduces radiant heat damage. Lava Wrap lowers under-hood temperatures by as much as 50 percent.
Heatshield Products Lava Wrap withstands continuous temperatures of 1,200-degrees Fahrenheit and intermittent 2,000-degrees Fahrenheit. Please note this is a real world tested rating, so beware over inflated temperature ratings of similar basalt/volcanic rock products.
Installation is easy: wrap it around your exhaust pipe, using overlap to hold itself in place (like a hockey stick or tennis racket grip) and use our Thermal-Tie, hose clamps or wire products to secure the ends in place.

Installation Tips 
Wrapping headers and exhaust pipes requires patience. Go slow and take your time. Make the wrap as tight as possible – this will hold the wrap on the pipe better and retain the most heat in the system.

Soaking The Wrap in Water

 Soaking the wrap in a bucket of water is NOT necessary. You may spray the header/exhaust wrap with water. Spraying exhaust wrap with water as you work can make installation easier and also reduce the amount of fibers. It will not cause it to shrink, but it makes it stick to itself better.

A Wet and Dry Wrap

If you are installing wrap on a motorcycle or powersports application, we recommend a 50% overlap instead of the ¼” overlap during the installation process.

Heatshield Products Lava Turbo Shield was designed for and tested to manage heat on the most hardcore turbocharged racing applications. Heatshield Products Lava Turbo Heat Shield reduces turbo lag while protecting other engine components and reducing under-hood temperatures. Lava Turbo Heat Shield is a custom fit and uses extreme-temperature materials to keep heat in the hot side of the turbo where it belongs. The Lava Turbo Heat Shield has a rugged outer layer of our Lava Shield material that is 25 percent stronger than comparable fiberglass shields, giving a longer life span. The silica contact layer and silica insulation make Lava Turbo Heat Shield capable of withstanding 1,800 degrees F continuous. We use a 1/2-inch-thick BioCool thermal-barrier inner pad sandwiched between heavy-duty foil, bound and sewn together with a stainless steel mesh at the edges. BioCool is a non-caustic, non-flammable thermal barrier. The precision-fit design means you do not have to trim or fit the heatshield blanket to your turbo housing, making installation a snap.

Q. My turbo shield is smoking after it is installed, will it catch on fire?
A. No, smoking is normal. the material used are non combustible and the smoke you see are binder burning off from the textiles used, this is completely normal. The smoking will stop after a short period of time. It can last as little as a few minutes to a few days, it depends on how hot your turbo gets.
Q. I have installed my turbo shield, but i still can't touch my turbo is it not working?
A. Yes the shield is functioning just fine. The shield reduces the amount of radiant heat, but it can't always knock the temperature down to where it is safe to the touch. For example, say your turbo is running at 1000°F, and you were able to knock the temperature down to 500°F, you certainly wouldn't put your hand in an oven at 500°F, so please don't touch the turbo shield either!

How To Install a Race Duramax LB7 Downpipe

How to Install a Duramax down-pipe 
2001-2004 LB7 Duramax Turbo Direct Installation instructions

PPE Diesel Engineering 

This pipe is designed to fit the 2001 through 2004 LB7 Chevrolet Duramax and is intended for Off Road Use Only.

(This pipe will not fit vehicles equipped with the California Emission alternative Turbo Direct Pipe.)

2001-2004 GM/Chevy Diesel 6.6L Duramax

To begin the installation you must disconnect and remove your factory front pipe that attaches to the factory turbo direct pipe, this installation will be easier if you take the front pipe all the way out of the vehicle.

Remove the transmission dipstick tube and set aside. (Installation of the new Turbo Direct Pipe may require transmission dipstick tube modification for clearance. In particular, a strip of metal may be welded in between the dipstick tube and the bracket to lengthen the bracket in order to reach the mounting studs.)

                                    This pipe does not fit LLY, LBZ or LMM engines

Remove the three nuts holding the factory heat shield in place over the top of the turbo and remove the heat shield. Remove the bolts and the nuts holding the factory turbo direct pipe in place. (These bolts can be extremely tight from the factory and may require special tooling or the removal of the transmission to allow room for tooling.)

After removing the factory turbo direct pipe and transmission dip stick tube you can now install the replacement turbo direct pipe, P/N # 117000400

Be sure to re-use the factory metal gasket between the turbo direct pipe and the turbo housing. You will need to use the included 10mm bolts to accommodate the thickness of the new pipe flange.

Once the new turbo direct pipe is installed and tight you can re-install the transmission dip stick tube, this should be done before re-connecting the front pipe onto the new turbo direct pipe. When all procedures mentioned above are completed, you can re-install the front pipe onto the new turbo direct pipe and any other attachments or brackets.
