Indications of water in the ATF may include:
| 1 | ATF blowing out of the transmission vent tube. |
| 2 | ATF may appear cloudy or, in cases of extreme contamination, have the appearance of a strawberry milkshake. |
| 3 | Visible water in the oil pan. |
| 4 | A milky white substance inside the pan area. |
| 5 | Spacer plate gaskets that appear to be glued to the valve body face or case. |
| 6 | Spacer plate gaskets that appear to be swollen or wrinkled in areas where they are not compressed. |
| 6 | Rust on internal transmission iron/steel components.
The transmission should be repaired or replaced based on the following Items:

| 1 | Replace all of the rubber-type seals. |
| 2 | Replace all of the composition-faced clutch plates and/or bands. |
| 3 | Replace all of the nylon parts. |
| 4 | Replace the torque converter. |
| 5 | Thoroughly clean and rebuild the transmission, using new gaskets and oil filter. |
